Former Premier of the Chinese State Council Li Keqiang died of a heart attack that occurred while swimming in the pool. This was reported by the Hong Kong edition South China Morning Post.
It is also noted that Keqiang previously underwent heart surgery.
According to the publication, citing two sources, Li Keqiang died while in the swimming pool of the Dongjiao Bingguan Hotel, where he lived during his trip to Shanghai. Doctors, accompanied by Keqiang’s guards, took him to Shuguang Hospital, where he died, despite the efforts of doctors.
In addition, it is known that Li Keqiang previously underwent coronary heart bypass surgery to restore blood flow to the heart muscle.
It is reported that Keqiang’s death came as a complete surprise to the highest echelon of Chinese authorities.
On October 27, it was reported that Li Keqiang had died at the age of 69. According to Xinhua, the cause of his death was a heart attack.
