According to Maia Sandu, Moscow sent nearly $5 million to “criminal groups” in two months to influence the outcome of elections in Moldova.
Moldovan President Maia Sandu said that the Russian Federation resorted to bribing Moldovan citizens to ensure the victory of certain parties in local elections. Reuters writes about this on November 1.
Sandu reportedly condemned Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and also accused Moscow of trying to overthrow power in Moldova. According to him, the Russian Federation spent almost $ 5 million in two months to support the activities of “criminal groups”.
Sandu mentioned that Russia had previously bribed government officials in his country. According to journalists, we are talking about corruption scandals on the eve of the 2020 elections.
“He no longer has this opportunity. Now he is buying Moldovan citizens. The Kremlin uses different categories of people… There are people who work for the Kremlin and go to Moscow for money,” Sandu said.
Moldovan President calls on law enforcement to take action
“It is important for everyone to come forward and vote for candidates who will follow Moldova’s pro-European policy and will not create obstacles along the way,” the politician emphasized.
Let us recall that Maia Sandu stated in an interview on October 6 that the Wagner PMC founded by Yevgeny Prigozhin was involved in developing a plan to overthrow the Moldovan authorities. According to him, Yevgeny Prigozhin planned a coup earlier this year.
Earlier, on October 26, Vladimir Putin’s press secretary Dmitry Peskov said that Moldova and its President Maia Sandu will have to pay for the words expressed against the Russian Federation.
