The details of the death of Gennady Chastyakov, assistant to the commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Valery Zaluzhny, who was blown up by a grenade in his own home, have become known. As the Ukrainian Ministry of Internal Affairs reported, one of his colleagues gave him the shell as a birthday present.
“It was the deceased Major Chastyakov’s birthday. He returned home from work with gifts from his colleagues, which he began to show to his relatives.”– said the Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine Igor Klimenko.
According to him, Chastyakov pulled out one of the grenades and began showing it to his son. The boy tried to pull the pin, and when he failed, Chastyakov himself did it. The ammunition detonated.
“The police found a fellow soldier who gave the fatal gift. His office has already been searched and two more similar grenades were seized. Primary investigative actions are ongoing.”,” added Klimenko.
Five more unexploded grenades were found in Chastyakov’s house.
Earlier, Zaluzhny announced the death of his assistant. He said that Chastyakov was celebrating his birthday at home when the fatal explosion occurred.
