Emergency evacuation: Residents of 53 houses left their homes due to suspicious object

Police officials said 53 homes were evacuated as a precaution because of a “possible electrical issue” at a home on the city’s Steel Street. Police received a report of concerns for the welfare of a person at 1.30pm yesterday, December 6.

“The police arrived at the scene and found a suspicious item at the residence,” the statement said.

Residents who were told to leave their homes were offered temporary accommodation at Ulverston Leisure Centre. They were allowed to return home around 11:00 today.

“A major incident was declared on Wednesday evening to help coordinate the efforts of various organizations to assist those forced to flee their homes. This allowed organizations to quickly share information and work effectively together to provide necessary support to evacuees.” We thank everyone who had to flee their homes for their patience.
