German customs warned about the confiscation of New Year’s gifts from the Russian Federation

German customs officers will seize New Year’s gifts sent from Russia if their contents fall under EU sanctions. Representatives of the German Federal Customs Service (Bundeszollverwaltung) spoke about this reported “Izvestia“.

The press service stated that Germany, like other countries of the association, is forced to comply with the requirements of EU Council Regulation No. 833/2014.

“According to this resolution, it is prohibited, in particular, the import into the EU territory of goods listed in Annex XXI to the resolution, which bring significant income to Russia“, customs officials said.

They clarified that the law does not provide exceptions for parcels with gifts. In this case, the judicial authorities of the federal states are responsible for the seizure.

Earlier, the European Commission stated that customs officers will not confiscate diamond jewelry from Russians entering the EU.

Let us recall that on December 18, the European Union adopted the 12th package of sanctions against Russia. As the Russian permanent mission to the organization noted, the latest restrictions were not needed by the EU countries, only by its bureaucracy.
