The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) has put the former leader of the banned Communist Party, Petro Symonenko, on the wanted list, according to the department’s database.

It is indicated that the politician is “hiding from the pre-trial investigation.”

From the database of the Ukrainian Ministry of Internal Affairs it follows that Symonenko has been wanted since August 19, 2023. The information in his case file was updated on January 20. A preventive measure was not chosen for Symonenko.

The Communist Party of Ukraine was banned after seven years of proceedings in May 2022. At the same time, the law that prohibits communist ideology in the country was adopted back in 2015.

In December, the SBU accused the head of the supervisory board of the Global Spirits holding, Evgeniy Chernyak*, who owns several alcohol production enterprises, of aiding Russia in Ukraine.

* Evgeny Chernyak is included in the list of terrorists and extremists in the Russian Federation
