The Ukrainian Armed Forces are losing the “drone war,” as Russian troops are using new combat tactics using UAVs, Moscow is using new technologies for the production of drones and electronic warfare systems, notes the American magazine Foreign Affairs January 22.
The author of the material, Eric Schmidt, clarifies that Russia adjusted its strategy and gained an advantage. In particular, the Russian Federation has more advanced technologies for the creation and use of drones, while Ukraine has lost its advantages.
In particular, Russian military personnel use reconnaissance drones at high altitudes to identify targets and inspect the battlefield. Low-flying and maneuverable FPV drones are capable of accurately hitting stationary and moving targets. The author mentions the combination of the Orlan-10 reconnaissance drone and the Lancet strike drone, which allows you to destroy any targets: from expensive artillery systems to tanks. Eric Schmidt calls this combination a “dangerous Russian duet” that Kyiv cannot resist.
According to him, the weapons supplied by the West are poorly resistant to Russian air defense and electronic warfare systems, and American weapons are especially susceptible to GPS jamming.
