The Russian Mission to the European Union discovered an error in the statement of the head of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, which was made on the occasion of International Holocaust Remembrance Day.

Von der Leyen’s statement published on website European Commission on the occasion of the anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz.

The report states that “On January 27, 1945, Allied forces liberated the Auschwitz-Birkenau (Auschwitz) death camp.” The Russian diplomatic mission indicated that the phrase was erroneous. The diplomatic mission called on the European Commission to correct it.

“It was the Red Army that liberated the Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp, not the Allied forces.”– said in a message from the Russian Permanent Mission to the EU in social networks X (formerly Twitter).

Let us recall that Russian President Vladimir Putin, on the occasion of Holocaust Remembrance Day, said that the memory of the victory over Nazism in World War II is sacred for Russia. The telegram with his words was read by the Chief Rabbi of the Russian Federation, Berel Lazar, at a memorial ceremony at the Jewish Museum and Tolerance Center in Moscow. Those gathered laid flowers at the monument to the heroes of the resistance in Nazi camps and ghettos.

Also at the Jewish Museum and Tolerance Center they showed documentaries and presented excerpts from the diaries of children who survived the Holocaust.
