The United States remains prepared to conduct underground nuclear testing, said Jill Hruby, head of the National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) under the United States Department of Energy, at an annual conference in Washington.

“We have made it clear that we have no plans to conduct an explosive nuclear test. However, we remain prepared to conduct such a test and are evaluating it, as required.”said Hruby.

According to her, the United States has no technical need to resume nuclear testing.

Earlier, Chairman of the House Armed Services Committee Roger Wicker and Senator Debra Fischer said that American nuclear weapons are obsolete. They believe that Washington is not funding enough to upgrade its nuclear arsenal. Lawmakers say the White House and Congress should act quickly to address existing problems.
