“They will destroy again and again”: Orban offers option to end war in Ukraine

The head of the Hungarian government believes that Ukraine may lose its statehood and the Russian Federation will never allow it to become a member of NATO and the European Union.

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban said that Ukraine should be a buffer zone between Russia and Western European countries. The politician said this during a meeting with former Austrian Chancellor Wolfgang Schüssel, Die Presse reported.

“Whether we like it or not, whether the Ukrainians like it or not, Ukraine has its place on the map. The best possibility for this is to create a buffer zone between Russia and the West, with security guarantees of course,” Orban said.

According to him, if this does not happen, “Ukraine will lose its state.”

“The Russians will destroy it again and again. Russia will never accept an EU and NATO member like Ukraine on its doorstep. Never,” Orban emphasized.

He believes that Kiev missed the chance to integrate into these structures at the Alliance summit in Bucharest in 2008.

Let us recall that at the end of January 2024, Orban called Ukraine a “serious problem” for the EU. He stated that Ukraine is a “big country” and that “one must be very careful” in this regard. According to him, Ukraine’s approach to the EU and even its membership could have a “catastrophic effect” on the economies of other members. We are especially talking about the agricultural sector.

Moreover, Viktor Orban had just stated that the war in Ukraine could only be stopped by the 45th President of the United States, Donald Trump. The Hungarian official stated that he supported Trump in 2016. He was convinced that this was the kind of leader needed in Europe because the politician had clearly stated his country’s priority.
