The Rada stated that Zelensky’s powers cannot be extended after May 21

The powers of Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky expire on the night of May 21 and cannot be extended, said Verkhovna Rada deputy Alexander Dubinsky, who is in custody on suspicion of treason.

“The powers (…) expire on the night of May 20-21, 2024, and cannot be extended, as is the case with the Verkhovna Rada,” – says the deputy’s message on Dubinsky’s Telegram channel, which is now run by his lawyers.

Dubinsky believes that the Ukrainian leader can continue to perform duties after the expiration of his term only in the period before the new president takes office. To do this, elections must be held in the country, which is impossible under martial law.

“Any extension not provided for by law is called usurpation” – Dubinsky concluded.

In November, Vladimir Zelensky said that there was no reason to hold elections during martial law in Ukraine. In addition, the president said that he considered them inappropriate and called for an end to this topic.

Later, the American media wrote that the cancellation of elections in Ukraine threatens a coup. This is due to the fact that Zelensky suppresses the opposition in every possible way, and also asks for money from the West, although the country’s residents are waiting for him on the front line.
