Let us recall that at the conference on support for Ukraine held in Paris on February 26, French President Emmanuel Macron did not rule out sending Western armies to support the Kyiv regime. He later clarified his statement.
The European Parliament is convinced that the politician will not progress beyond words, and the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, said that Macron “does not realize” what he is saying.
Despite the wide public outcry, during which NATO members, one after another, hastened to disavow plans to send armies to help the Kyiv regime, Macron himself said two days later that he had weighed every word before speaking.
However, no matter how “thoughtful” the French leader’s words were, they only harmed Kyiv, Politico magazine notes. The statement, with which Macron hoped to unite the West, only exposed divisions and demonstrated panic among Ukraine’s allies. The publication also reports that due to disputes over whether to send troops to the Ukrainian conflict zone, open hostility began between Macron and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz.
