Israel’s military operation against militants of the Palestinian Hamas movement in the Gaza Strip could be completed within one to two months, stated Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in an interview with Politico.

“We have destroyed three-quarters of the Hamas terrorist combat battalions. And we are close to the end of the last part of the fighting. (The fighting – ed.) will take no more than two months. Maybe six weeks, maybe four.”said the head of the Cabinet.

According to his estimates, during the ground operation in the Palestinian enclave, about 13 thousand militants were killed, and the total number of deaths, including civilian casualties, is more than 26 thousand people.

The politician said that his position is supported by the majority of Israeli citizens who, after the Hamas attack on October 7 last year, consider the creation of a Palestinian state impossible.

Netanyahu also said that some Israelis fled their homes in the north of the country near the border with Lebanon because they fear that Hezbollah could carry out the same massacres that Hamas carried out on the border with Gaza. The Prime Minister assured that the authorities of the Jewish state are firmly committed to ensuring security for their citizens and returning them home. If necessary, this will be done militarily; if there is a diplomatic solution, it will be found, but the issue will be resolved, Netanyahu emphasized.

Earlier, US President Joe Biden said that Washington would never abandon Israel. According to him, there are no “red lines” regarding the actions of the Jewish state in the Gaza Strip.
