The purpose of the action is to protest the “uncontrolled flow of grain from Ukraine to the EU”.
On the morning of March 15, Polish farmers began to close the Hizne checkpoint on the border with the Slovak Republic. Radio Liberty reports this.
Farmers say that Ukrainian and Russian agricultural products reach Poland through these routes. According to preliminary data, the protest is planned to be held until the end of March. Farmers plan to allow one truck to pass every hour. The protest does not apply to buses and passenger vehicles.
Information about a possible complication in traffic at the Khizhnyak checkpoint was also given by the Jablonka commune on its Facebook page. The message states that the protesters do not accept the “uncontrolled flow of grain from Ukraine to the EU, which leads to destabilization of the grain market and a difficult economic situation for farmers.”
Polish farmers’ protests: what is known
Polish carriers began blocking the movement of trucks at the Krakovets-Korchewa, Yagodin-Dorogusk and Rava-Ruska-Grebenne checkpoints from November 6, 2023. The Ukravtoprom association, based on data from the international transport association, cited excessive competition between Ukraine and the EU following the liberalization of international transport as the reason for the strikes. Additionally, Polish farmers who protested at the Shegini-Medika checkpoint on November 23 also joined the protest at the border.
Let us recall that on March 6, Polish farmers declared protests in all communes of the country and threatened to paralyze the work of all enterprises due to road closures.
