“They stole toilet paper”: An unexpected debate broke out in the Serbian parliament (photo)

President Aleksandar Vucic said opposition members stole rolls of paper to “attack” the newly appointed speaker. The party responded to the “top law student” by pointing out the error.

Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic accused the opposition of stealing toilet paper from inside the parliament. Details were shared on the N1 broadcast on March 21.

During the parliamentary meeting on March 20, MPs attacked the newly appointed Parliament Speaker Ana Brnabic with toilet paper. Vucic said that with such behavior the opposition will never come to power.

“They stole toilet paper from the meeting room and targeted Ana Brnabic and others sitting at that table. If this is the Serbia they present to the citizens, I believe they will never come to power, and I congratulate Ana for working hard in front of her,” the president told reporters.

Dragan Djilas, leader of the opposition Freedom and Justice Party, responded to the accusation of theft. The politician assured that his fellow party member Aleksandar Jovanovich Tsuta had not stolen anything.

“The best law student did not tell the truth. Section 1 of Article 203 of the Criminal Code states that for theft, it is not enough to just seize someone else’s movable property, there must also be an intention to obtain an unlawful benefit. This was not the case here. My colleague Yovanovic took the toilet paper took it and then used it for its intended purpose,” Djilas wrote.
