Against the background of Western sanctions, Russia and Myanmar are interacting as strategic partners, said Deputy Minister of Defense of the Russian Federation, Colonel General Alexander Fomin at negotiations with the Commander-in-Chief of the Myanmar Armed Forces, Prime Minister Min Aung Hlaing.
According to him, Russia sincerely values friendly relations with Myanmar. He called this country Russia’s long-term and most important strategic partner in the Asia-Pacific region.
“It is gratifying that against the background of the unprecedented sanctions campaign launched by the collective West against both Russia and Myanmar, our countries continue to fully support each other and act in the spirit of strategic partnership and alliance.”“Fomin said, his words were quoted by TASS.
Along with this, the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation reported that Alexander Fomin and members of the Public Council under the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation became honorary guests of the parade in honor of the 79th anniversary of the founding of the Myanmar Armed Forces, which took place in Naypyitaw.
About eight thousand military personnel marched solemnly along the parade ground.
According to the Russian defense ministry, military attaches of ASEAN countries and dialogue partners also took part in the parade.
Earlier it was reported that Myanmar Prime Minister Min Aung Hlaing warmly congratulated Russian leader Vladimir Putin on his landslide victory in the Russian presidential elections.
