Crimea “given” to Moscow: Canadian hockey club publishes map of the peninsula as part of the Russian Federation

Canadian athletes have released a map showing Russians playing for the Calgary Flames hockey team.

The National Hockey League’s (NHL) Calgary Flames have released a map of Russia showing Crimea as part of the country despite its status as an occupied Ukrainian peninsula. This became known from the controversial club’s Instagram account.

The Calgary Flames hockey club, headquartered in Calgary, Canada, has published a map showing the countries of origin of the team’s players. Among them there are three Russian and one Belarusian players. Crimea was also drawn on this map, which allegedly belonged to the Russian Federation.

Please note that this post has now been removed from the social network.

It is important to note that even though the Russian Federation launched a large-scale military invasion of Ukraine, the National Hockey League did not take action to remove a significant number of Russian players.

Let us recall that on May 30, 2023, the Hungarian government published a video on its YouTube channel showing a map showing Crimea as belonging to Russia. This video focuses on calls for peace in Ukraine, drawing attention to the suffering of children, the destruction of cities and the problems of refugees. Attention is also drawn to the potential threat of global war in the future. The video emphasizes the urgency of starting peace talks to resolve the conflict.

And in May 2021, another scandal broke out on the Internet regarding the map of Ukraine, which does not contain occupied Crimea. This time the focus was on BlaBlaCar, the international online service for finding car buddies.
