Halloween night is coming

Credits: Special

Undoubtedly, the option to see in theaters in the coming days is Halloween: last night, a film that puts an end to a franchise led by the great Jamie Lee Curtis, who was recently in Mexico to promote the film and who I had the opportunity to speak with. And for those who want to see horror at home, I also present an alternative with Gael Garcia Bernal. Go read.

She justifies herself and says goodbye to the character who saw her birth in the movies. Here’s how Jamie Lee Curtis is wrapping up the franchise he started when he was 19. It was her first film in film, and while the actress said in an interview that she doesn’t remember exactly how she got started on the set of Halloween (she’s 63 now, I think that was a long time ago), Jamie Lee admitted that her mother, the great Janet Leigh, told her when she found out her daughter was making her film debut in a horror movie, “Look, I don’t remember any of that, I honestly don’t remember saying anything to her. We weren’t that close, but I’m sure she was happy for me.” And that’s what we remember in Leigh’s career before and after that iconic bathroom scene when Norman Bates stabbed her to death in Alfred Hitchcock’s Psycho, so I was very curious to know a little more about that part of her life. , and it turns out that in the process, Jamie Lee Curtis told me a fun fact that I didn’t know: “The movie was made so fast… Did you know that the Halloween movie was made in the same amount of time, times, days as I was on this promotional tour? The whole movie, that’s how quickly it was made. It was 17 days.

If there’s anything I have to admit, it’s that the promotional tour that Jamie Lee Curtis has done in our country is one of the best I’ve seen for any movie in a long time. But above all, I really enjoyed seeing the effort the actress put into every event hosted by distributor Universal Pictures to promote the latest Halloween movie. Therefore, one could do this interview, in which Jamie talks about how difficult it was to say goodbye to Laurie Strode after 44 years: “I don’t think any of us are ready to say goodbye. Goodbyes are painful, they hurt a lot, they hurt a lot (they are scary), they scare you, they are sad. Goodbyes are not happy goodbyes, usually hard to get things done, but they are appropriate.

Even though he seemed indestructible, especially as we saw in Halloween Kills: The Night’s Not Over, Michael Myers eventually dies in this movie (Yeah, don’t even blame me for messing things up too the obvious … Or did you never believe that the character dies not for the sake of his grand finale? well, I really doubted it) it’s interesting to see how one of the most symbolic villains of slasher cinema is killed and honestly not. This is not true. After the shitty movie we saw in 2021, it’s obvious that this is a real cinematic gem. If you arrive with very low expectations, with the biggest popcorn drum you can find, and plenty of soda to get up without fear of going to the bathroom, you won’t have a bad time. But don’t expect big surprises, although for me Rohan Campbell’s performance as the new villain in history surprised me a lot and I think this movie could make the Virgin River actor more visible. Obviously, there is no need to talk about the great work that Jamie Lee Curtis always does, this time already noticeably older and determined to leave the past behind. A must-see ribbon this Halloween night.

But for fans of the horror genre who don’t want to leave the house and prefer to have a movie marathon at home, in addition to the ones I recommended in the previous column, there is Werewolf By Night, a special Halloween black and white image of only 52 minutes that is already available on the platform Disney+ are worth watching because they pay homage to the classic horror movie. The film stars Gael Garcia Bernal, who, like Mexican Tenoch Huerta, was also hired by Marvel Mall to play the half-beast, half-human role. In an interview, Charolastra talked about the emotional transformation he faced playing a role so alien to anything he’s done before: “I was curious because I also really like horror movies, I like them because they’re really scary to for starters, but also because it’s a classic genre of cinema, it’s like the most operatic, the most stylized version of cinema, and it has its own rules. That’s why monsters are incredibly exciting, and I’m very lucky to be able to participate in something like this, and who can also talk about it much more and demonstrate and express it much more clearly is my compatriot Guillermo Del Toro, who somehow speaks in some way much more exciting, and how the monsters can be from a place where we also sublimate our traumas, so they are very human.” Recall that just over a year ago, Gael also starred in M. Night Shyamalan’s thriller Viejos, but he has nothing to do with this other, which his colleague Del Toro hopes approves: “I did not speak specifically about this project with him, but now that it’s out, I’d like to know what you think. But definitely a lot of his interviews and what he wrote was a starting point to understand or shall we say the path of how to explore these characters.

The film is short, hits the mark, honors and also entertains. Run to see it because it’s really worth it.
