The rare Peugeot of the legendary rally driver is up for sale (photo)

The car for sale has a rich history and was often used in charity events. The mileage of the car is only 12,875 km.

The original 1988 Peugeot 309 GTI Group A race car, owned by legendary driver Richard Burns, goes on sale in the UK. Details are reported on the PistonHeads website.

Richard Burns is remembered by the world as a virtuoso rally driver who won the 2001 World Championships. Then he was driving the Subaru Impreza WRC.

A racing driver’s professional career in motor sports began with Peugeot cars. After a successful run in the UK, he received a Peugeot 205 GTI gift from friend and wealthy rally enthusiast David Williams. Later in 1990, Richard Burns took part in the Peugeot Challenge.

In 1991, the racer bought a Peugeot 309 GTI Group A for the finals of the world rally championship, and it was this car that went on sale.

In Group A, the Peugeot 309 GTI went head-to-head with 4WD rally monsters like Richard Burns, Ford Sierra RS Cosworth and Lancia Delta Integrale.

Car for sale features the original 1991 RAC Rally look. In 1998, Richard Burns bought the car from a private collector.

The car remained in the Burns family after the driver’s death in 2005. It was used at charity events to support the Richard Burns Foundation, which helps support people with cancer and neurological diseases.

In 2021, the car once again fell into the hands of a private collector. All this time Autosportif Engineering was under the supervision of rally experts.

The Peugeot 309 GTI Group A is equipped with a 1.9-liter naturally aspirated four-cylinder engine with 175 horsepower. and 194 Nm of torque. It is paired with a five-speed manual gearbox.

The car has been regularly serviced and is in excellent condition. All rally equipment remained in place, including the various sensors, roll cage and MOMO sports steering wheel.

The mileage of the Peugeot 309 GTI Group A is only 12,875 km. Included with the car are letters from the driver regarding the purchase of the car, restoration documents and a complete service history. Price available on request.
