Popular Ford hatchback could return as electric car: first details

Most likely, the Ford Fiesta will receive an electric successor on the Volkswagen MEB platform. The novelty may be the cheapest model of the brand.

The popular Ford Fiesta hatchback is discontinued in Europe. It has been learned that the model can be revived in the form of an electric car. This was reported on the InsideEVs website.

Martin Sander, head of passenger cars for Ford of Europe, said the Fiesta could return as an electric car in the future. He noted that the innovation can be built on the basis of an affordable Volkswagen electric car.

Ford and Volkswagen have already worked together to develop the next-generation Explorer electric crossover. It is based on the Volkswagen MEB platform.

Sander noted that the final decision on the fate of Ford Fiesta has not yet been made. Therefore, it is possible to create an electric successor of the model on another platform.

Ford has entered into an agreement with Volkswagen Group to produce two electric vehicles based on the MEB platform. One of them is the Ford Explorer, and the second model has not yet appeared.

The new Ford Fiesta is said to be based on Volkswagen’s cheapest electric car, the production version of the all-ID.2. The model will cost less than $27,000 and will be released as early as 2024.
