“We are preparing for winter”: Ukrenergo told whether there will be power outages in spring and summer

According to the head of the company, Vladimir Kudritsky, the situation in the energy system will stabilize in hot weather, but in order to survive the winter without interruptions, it is already necessary to restart the work of damaged plants.

In the next six months, electricity in Ukraine will be enough to meet the needs of the population and industry. This was announced on March 28, 2023 by the chairman of the board of NPC Ukrenergo Volodymyr Kudrytsky.

Also, according to him, the Ukrainian energy system is part of the European system, so it will be able to import electricity if necessary.

Volodymyr Kudrytsky, “The Ukrainian energy system is part of the European system, which means we can import electricity if our own electricity is not enough, and this is a very important factor in the country’s energy security.”

How will the Ukrainian energy system work in the hot period?

As Vladimir Kudritsky points out, most likely in the spring and summer consumers will not have any problems with the light. The situation in the power system must be balanced. But now we need to carefully prepare for the coming winter.

“First of all, the re-commissioning of the damaged power plants in the thermal and hydroelectric power plants and the mobilization of all the resources of the energy system as much as possible to spend the winter with dignity and uninterrupted,” said the head of Ukrenergo.

Due to bad weather, Ukrainians turned off the light

Weather conditions in Ukraine on Tuesday, March 28, changed dramatically: instead of sun and heat, it began to rain with sleet, accompanied by strong winds. Emergency power cuts were initiated in different parts of Ukraine due to bad weather conditions. Thereupon, Ukrenergo announced that 8 regions were left without electricity.:

  • Lvovskaya;
  • Volynskaya;
  • Transcarpathian;
  • Rivne;
  • Khmelnytsky;
  • ternopil;
  • Chernivtsi;
  • Odessa.

According to Ukrenergo, repair teams consisting of energy engineers immediately went to the site of the damage. The company also noted that despite the consequences of bad weather, there are enough reserves in production to supply electricity to the rest of the country.

Recall, on March 28, Energy Minister Herman Galushchenko told European Commission Vice-President Maros Shefchovich that Ukraine is ready to continue exporting electricity to EU countries. The Ukrainian ministry hopes that the European ENTSO-E network will accept our country’s offer as soon as possible.

By the way, since the autumn of last year, the Russian Federation has carried out more than 15 large missile attacks on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure, and another 18 attacks were carried out using kamikaze drones. According to the Ukrainian government, as of December last year, about 50% of the energy system was damaged or destroyed. Russian missiles hit all thermal power plants and most hydroelectric power stations.
