Russian Navy ships were near Nord Stream on the eve of the explosions – investigation

The ship “Sibiryakov” of the Baltic Fleet of the Russian Federation, conducting underwater operations, was in the area of \u200b\u200bthe “Northern currents” on the eve of the explosions.

Russian warships approached the area of the Nord Stream 1 and Nord Stream 2 gas pipelines at least three times, where the explosions occurred in September 2022. This was noted in the investigation of experts from Denmark DR, Norway NRK, Finland Yle and Sweden SVT.

Journalists learned that the Russian ships were there twice, in June 2022, and in September, a week before the ensuing explosions. The ships tried to move in this position undetected as it was shut down by tracking devices. However, Scandinavian journalists were able to locate them during this period thanks to radio communications and satellite photographs.

During the investigation, journalists found that an unnamed Russian navy ship set off from the Kaliningrad naval base on June 6 last year. The ship is several hours away and is even located where the Nord Stream 1 and Nord Stream 2 gas pipelines run at a depth of about 80 meters from the seafloor.

Already on June 14, the 86-meter research ship “Sibiryakov” of the Baltic Fleet arrived in this area. The ship remained near the pipelines until June 15. He walked intermittently at low speed. Experts, in a meeting with journalists, announced that the ship was conducting underwater operations.

Simultaneously with Sibiryakov, another ship was recorded at this position on the morning of June 15. The ship’s crew was near Nord Streams with the tracking system turned off. The ships were then several hundred meters to several kilometers from one of the places where the explosion occurred.

The Baltic Fleet tug “SB-123” was spotted on September 21. This is five days before the explosions. Radio communication interruption indicates that the ship arrived on the evening of September 21 and remained there until noon the next day. Then the patrol ship DK Nymfen arrived.

Explosions in Nord Stream

On September 26, a sharp drop in pressure was recorded in Russia’s Nord Stream 2 gas pipelines. The incident was reported by the coastal services of Germany, Denmark, Sweden, Finland and Russia.

On September 27, 2022, the Danish Armed Forces released a video showing the consequences of the Nord Stream gas pipeline accident. The Danish Energy Agency said the gas pipelines were not cracks but large holes. By September 27, there were three leaks in total.

Recall that on September 28, the British Ministry of Defense stated that the Russian Federation could blow up Nord Stream using an underwater drone. The Russians were able to deliver explosives to the gas pipelines a few months before the explosion.
