“This will not happen”: Rada explains why cash will never be canceled in Ukraine

According to Deputy Yaroslav Zheleznyak, the Central Bank and the Ministry of Finance have a similar opinion.

In Ukraine, the circulation of cash will never be completely banned, as it will not help in the fight against corruption. This was stated on the Telegram channel by Yaroslav Zheleznyak, First Deputy Chairman of the Finance, Tax and Customs Policy Committee.

“No one will ban money. That promise will never come. Why? Because this is nonsense,” he wrote.

According to him, explanations for the transfer of the country only to non-cash payments are possible only after a radical tax reform and capital amnesty. But that will never happen.

According to Zheleznyak, the Central Bank and the Ministry of Finance are considering the same thing. At the same time, the volume of non-cash payments in Ukraine is increasing every year.

Cash cancellation in Ukraine: what’s going on

Rostyslav Shurma, Deputy Head of the Office of the President of Ukraine, spoke about such plans at the Ukrainian Recovery Conference in London.

“We are discussing. I cannot say for sure that we will. It is being discussed, but these are very deep and serious discussions with our team, our prime minister, our president. We want to be the first. completely cashless. [без наличных денег] economy,” he said.

He said officials will present the roadmap of this idea in the coming months.

What do they think of this idea at the Central Bank?

Ekaterina Rozhkova, First Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Ukraine, said at a press conference on June 28 that Ukraine’s banking system is ready to completely abandon cash, but no country has yet started such a practice.

“Today’s technologies allow card-to-card money transfer or payment via the payment machine built into the phone, even relatively in the market. The banking system is ready for this in terms of technology, participation and continuity,” he said. .

But at the same time, Rozhkova added that even super-developed European countries do not give up on cash.

Focus previously wrote that they introduced mandatory restructuring in Ukraine for citizens coming from regions where hostilities are taking place or are being carried out, or from temporarily occupied territories. Moreover Focus wrote about the revision of the tariffs of banks for card transactions for individuals. Such decisions are affected by inflation and other factors.
