Restore Mariupol after the Russians: how much money will be needed to revive the city

According to the mayor of the Ukrainian city, Vadym Boychenko, about 28.5 billion hryvnia will be needed for the complete restoration of the city destroyed by the Russian invaders.

It may take several decades for Mariupol to be fully restored after the end of the occupation. This was announced on August 23, 2023 by the mayor of the city, Vadym Boychenko, during the presentation of the plan for the revitalization of the city after the war.

“We’ve been working on this plan for almost a year. 12 teams created 154 projects,” he said.

According to him, during the development of the plan, the experts selected the most important areas:

  • security of residents;
  • humane aid;
  • initial restoration of the residence;
  • Government Policy;
  • transport and road infrastructure;
  • health care;
  • community services;
  • economy;
  • education;
  • new positioning of Mariupol;
  • human capital and culture;
  • Sport and leisure.

“This is an action plan aimed at preventing the humanitarian crisis in the city. Everything is calculated, there is a budget and it is almost 28.5 billion hryvnia,” said the mayor. he added.

Implementation of the plan will take about two years, but restoration of the city will take decades.

The plan was made public in the summer of 2022, when a Ukrainian delegation attended an investment conference in Lugano. It is known that the restoration plan of our country is designed for the next 10 years. During this time, the Ukrainian leadership expects the implementation of 850 projects. The authors of the plan hope to attract attention for the restoration of Ukraine about 750 billion dollars, will be managed by national programmes.

Petr Andryushchenko said that when the Ukrainian Armed Forces entered the city, the situation of the Mariupol collaborators who remained in the city would not be very good because the special services of the Russian Federation did not give permission to leave.
