Debt in the amount of 6 billion hryvnia: calculated how residents pay for a communal apartment in Kiev

Kyivteploenergo said that it was possible to maintain the functioning of the capital’s energy complex under martial law, thanks to the people of Kiev who continue to pay their electricity bills.

Most residents of the capital regularly pay their water bills. Despite this, debts for water, sewage and hot water continue to increase. This was stated during a briefing on September 6 by the director of the structural unit of the “Energosbyt” utility company “Kyivteploenergo” Konstantin Lopatin.

He said that thanks to the people of Kiev, who paid their bills on time, public institutions were able to support the operation of the energy complex under martial law. At the same time, the total debt increased by UAH 830 million compared to September last year. Now the amount of debt is almost 6 billion hryvnia.

“Paying for heating and hot water is extremely important, because this money is used to buy gas, which is used to generate heat and electricity for most residences in the capital. It is clear that the war has seriously affected the economic situation in the country and everyone’s ability to pay for utilities, stable in winter and it is a contribution to the safe passage,” he said.

Lopatin said that the people of Kiev, who have difficulty in paying the entire debt at once, can restructure and pay their debt in installments. Thus, citizens will be able to reduce the financial burden on the family budget and evenly distribute payments to pay off their debts.

Recall that after the outbreak of a full-scale war in Ukraine, data on debts of the population to utilities were not published. But in mid-February 2023 it became known that Ukrainians have huge debts to utilities, especially heating and hot water. That is, as of December 1, 2022, the debt amounted to UAH 35.35 billion.

By the way, according to the State Statistics Service, the total cost of housing and communal services for the year from July 2022 to July 2023 has increased so far: 14.7% . Most of all, the price of electricity increased – immediately 69.7%. Open 10% Prices for other services have also increased. Well:

  • increased cost of garbage collection 14.3%;
  • home care and repair 10.6%.

We also remember that Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal said on 5 July that Ukraine will not increase the water tariff until the end of the war.
