Vladimir Kudrytsky, head of the energy company Ukrenergo, says that from a technical point of view, the Ukrainian energy system is fully ready to survive the winter.
On the eve of the new autumn-winter period, many Ukrainians are worried about possible power outages if the Russian military launches major attacks on energy infrastructure again. However, Ukrenergo assures that despite all the damage, the Ukrainian energy system will be able to cover normal winter consumption. This was stated by the company’s president, Vladimir Kudritsky, speaking at the Kiev International Economic Forum on October 12.
According to him, power engineers simulated the coldest day of winter during the heating season.
“And it turns out that if we use imported current and turn on additional gas-fired power units, we will have the coldest day,” he said.
Important
As Kudritsky said, energy companies and the Ukrainian energy sector have the resources to cover normal winter consumption.
“In the summer, many substations and power plants were repaired so that the energy system could function normally in the winter,” said Vladimir Kudritsky.
Will there be new attacks on the energy sector – The Main Intelligence Agency responded
Kirill Budanov, Head of the Main Intelligence Department of the Ministry of Defense, noted that the Russians managed to accumulate resources to attack Ukrainian territory again. As the officer explained, they had reduced the intensity of recent attacks by reviving their warhead stockpile. The enemy doesn’t have many missiles, but “the supply is sufficient,” he said.
In winter, the Russians are expected to hit the following targets:
- energy;
- oil and gas;
- Industry;
- military.
To reduce the consequences of Russian attacks, Ukraine needs to increase the number of air defense systems – this is our “most important problem.”
Meanwhile, Ukrainian officials report that the Russian Armed Forces are maintaining our country’s port infrastructure. Thus, on the night of October 12, the invaders hit Izmail and Reni in the Odessa region using 33 Shahed-136 kamikaze drones.
Important
Moreover, the last time the Russians dealt a blow to the energy sector was in September: then they managed to cut off electricity to part of the Rivne region.
At the same time, Sergei Kovalenko, general director of the Yasno company, said on October 6 that power supply in winter will depend not only on the intensity of shelling. He explained that avoiding severe frosts will help the energy system withstand the cold.
