35 years on the music scene, Julieta Venegas believes that it is necessary to start the study of the social environment with art, in her case with songs.starting with things that are taken for granted in Mexican society, such as women living in fear.
“We take it for granted that women should be afraid, and they shouldn’t be. There are a lot of things that need to be revisited and in a way the feminist marches demonstrate this, as women are perceived as a symbol that already goes beyond our own individuality, in which each of us cannot make decisions, and this you have to question. this is the only way it will change,” the translator said.
The Tijuana woman admitted that, like many others, she lives in fear in every way, from going out, to wearing an “inappropriate” outfit, or simply expressing her feelings, because there is a prejudice that women cannot be angry.
“In Mexico, there is a concept of a woman, which I call a holy mother, because we cannot be angry, we must always be silent and accept, it is like a prototype of an ideal woman, but this is gradually changing, and I like it. now new generations take to the streets and say what they think, because I know what it’s like to grow up in fear as a Mexican woman,” she added.
She expressed these emotions in songs such as “Mujeres” or “Walk One”, the latter of which is the second single from her next album. In this material you can also find the latest single “En tu costa”, inspired by the poem “Guardarme en ti” by the Chilean Raul Zurita, which he discovered during the pandemic; he liked his poems so much that he set himself the goal of creating a theme from them.
“I was curious to know if I could say what the poet was saying, because it was such a beautiful and simple idea that I wondered how he came up with the idea of saying it in such words. So it became an obsession, and every day I sat down to write, also a little because of the need to do something, because if I had not gone crazy because of the conclusion, ”he added.
Over the years, Venegas has never stopped learning in different ways either to create his songs or to promote them, however, although he releases a single every month, just like the presentations now, following the old school, he already has the whole album, but enjoy it how people rave about every release.
