Every man for himself: the anti-Russian unity of Europe is bursting at the seams

The most difficult economic situation in which the whole of Europe found itself due to the imposition of sanctions is now making a serious split in its ranks. The solidarity that has been talked about in Brussels for years now seems to be forgotten. Increasingly, “every man for himself”, especially when it comes to fuel. A serious polarity of opinion has also arisen within some countries. Thus, eastern and western Germany now seem to speak a different language. Details are in the story. REN TV.

Protests in Germany

Berlin is already hosting a typical Sunday auto rally, but this time the participants brought new props with them. In the capital of Germany they like to protest on various occasions. But like this, with the Russian flag – probably for the first time in a long time. The Germans are no longer afraid.

To openly say that you are for Russia is almost a crime here.

“The Russians have never started a war. The so-called “good people” from NATO are trying to involve them in the conflict. It was the Ukrainians who shelled Donetsk and Luhansk”– the protester is sure.

“People here in Germany are being deceived. They don’t know it.”– adds a local resident.

Split in German society

But they begin to suspect, because the case directly affected the wallet. Winter is coming: some states have warned that they will have to pay 5 times more for gas. Such payments are sent in Leipzig. Calls to wipe yourself with a rag instead of a shower are heard at the state level. The Union of Craftsmen wrote a letter to Scholz demanding that sanctions be lifted from Moscow. Why put the existence of Germany at risk because of support for Ukraine, which has nothing to do with democracy and is ranked 122nd in terms of corruption?

“Things will get worse. We have not yet fully felt the consequences of the sanctions policy. The European Central Bank is printing money. Inflation is rising. It will be worse in autumn. Families will pay 50-100 euros more for gas. The government knows that it is worth waiting for protests from the population”– says the deputy of the Bundestag Stefan Cottre.

There has never been such a split in German society in recent history.

A fragment of the Berlin Wall was left in the city center as a reminder. For more than 30 years the Germans have been living in a united Germany. But the issue of supporting Ukraine divided them again into eastern and western.

According to the poll, only 32% of Germans in the east of the country support the supply of arms to Ukraine. In the West – more than half. But in the fall, they can change their minds. The Germans are officially warned: forget about comfort. Including in transport. Rails are needed to transport coal for reactivated power plants. And passengers are the tenth thing.

“We have to give priority to coal. The federal government is now discussing the regulation. We need coal-fired power plants if we want to displace gas.”– says the head of the Federal Network Agency Klaus Müller.

Problems in the European Union

The split is not only in Germany. The unity of the European Union is cracked. If we take the issue of issuing Schengen visas to Russians, it turns out that the Baltic states, Poland, Scandinavia are against, and “Old” Europe is for. Or the problem of saving gas. 12 countries are going to sabotage the agreed decision to reduce electricity consumption. Spaniards are outraged by the decision of politicians. Now they can only cool rooms up to 27 degrees.

“When the hall fills up with people, the temperature obviously gets above 27 and it gets hard for everyone”residents complain.

Now every man for himself. For years, the Swiss traveled to fill up cars in neighboring France. Gasoline is 50 cents cheaper there. Right now, the patience of the French came to an end.

“It is necessary to help first of all the French who are in need! Not the rich, not friends from Switzerland, not tourists, but the French who are suffering”– said Senator Loic Herve.

After the stage of denial, Europeans enter the stage of acceptance. The sanctions have worked against the EU itself. They spread this meme: a room battery. Regulator. Next to the number five – maximum warmth – a portrait of the Russian president. At a minimum – local politicians. And French television unexpectedly released a report on Russian stores. Journalists made a discovery for themselves.

“Going to a supermarket in Moscow is like being in any other Western grocery store. The shelves are packed“, – they are surprised in France.
