Despite Conservative Criticism, The North Face Doesn’t Give Up on ‘Summer of Pride’ Campaign

In an Instagram post last week, drag performer Pattie Gonia encouraged people to be in the great outdoors as part of The North Face’s “Summer of Pride” campaign. Called to come out.

“Nature accepts you as you are,” begins The North Face’s caption.

The campaign quickly drew the ire of conservatives. Republican Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, among others, called for a boycott of The North Face, tweeting that they were “grooming children.”

According to Fox News, the collection originally included children’s clothing, but after a backlash, The North Face removed it from its official website. However, Fox reports that the rainbow-themed children’s clothing will be available on the websites of sportswear stores that carry The North Face products.

The North Face is believed to have removed children’s clothing from its official website, but has defended its “Summer of Pride” campaign.

VF Corporation, the brand’s parent company, did not respond to a request for comment from Insider. “[The North Face]has always believed that the outdoors should be comfortable, fair and safe for everyone,” the company said in a statement to Fox.

“We are honored and grateful to support partners like Patti Gonia in realizing this vision,” said a spokesperson for VF Corporation.

“The Pride Summer series, now in its second year, is helping to create a more familiar and comfortable environment where people of all backgrounds can come together and experience the joys of the outdoors.”

This will be Gonia’s second year as spokesperson for The North Face’s “Summer of Pride” campaign, which will tour various cities, according to an Instagram post. Conservatives have been particularly vocal about retailers campaigning to support the LGBTQ community, with many calling for a boycott this year.
