Hungary is a “non-hostile country” for Russia as it supports sanctions against it. However, the Russian Ambassador to Budapest, Yevgeny Stanislavov, assured that the Russians are optimistic and strive for dialogue with the Hungarians. This is known from an interview published by RIA Novosti.
“Hungary has signed all Brussels’ anti-Russian sanctions packages and has to strictly abide by them. Therefore, it is classified as a hostile country to Russia and our retaliatory measures can be applied against it,” Stanislavov said.
The ambassador said that the sanctions are increasingly affecting the relations of the countries. According to him, this is detrimental to all spheres of cooperation: economy, politics, culture and human relations. Stanislav said that the Russian embassy in Hungary also suffered from it.
“However, we remain optimistic, and despite this background, we continue to strive for constructive interaction with Hungary and keep the channels of dialogue open, in order to preserve the baggage of positive developments that have accumulated over the past years,” the diplomat said. said.
The Ambassador also supported Hungary in the fight for the rights of national minorities in Ukraine. According to him, Russia is ready to cooperate with all parties concerned “to stop Kiev’s criminal policy against all ethnic minorities living in Ukraine without exception.” He stressed that Hungarians do not demand special treatment for their citizens, but defend the rights of all national minorities.
“We must give credit to our Hungarian colleagues: speaking of the problems facing their citizens in Ukraine, they never formally demanded for them any special, specific exceptions from the discriminatory norms for the whole of Ukraine, but tried to achieve harmony in the policy of Ukraine as a whole,” he said.
