Military aid to Ukraine: US Senate votes to end debate on bill

According to the Ukrainian Ambassador to the United States, 66 senators voted “for” this resolution, while only 33 senators voted “against”.

The US Senate passed a resolution to end debate on a bill that would allocate aid to Ukraine, Israel and Taiwan ($95 billion) without funds to protect the US southern border. This was reported on Facebook by the Ambassador of Ukraine to the USA, Oksana Markarova.

According to him, 66 senators voted “for” this decision, and only 33 senators voted “against”.

“The next step was the adoption of a motion to end debate on the updated text of bill H.R. 815 (Homeland Security Act of 2024), supported by 66 senators (60 required), with 33 senators voting. against,” Markarova wrote.

The Hill also reported that the aid package for Ukraine and Israel will be put to vote in the coming days. Democratic Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer touted the bill ahead of the vote as “a down payment on the survival of Western democracy and the survival of American values.” He called on his colleagues to end the nearly week-long debate.

Senators who voted for the measure hope strong bipartisan support will provide enough political momentum for House Speaker Mike Johnson to introduce the relief bill to the House.

Let us recall that on February 9, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz discussed aid to Ukraine with US senators. The German politician did not hide his positive feelings during his meeting with members of the US Senate representing the Democratic and Republican parties. Scholz said allies should help Ukraine defend itself against Russian aggression.
