Thanksgiving is one of the most iconic traditions in the United States. This year’s celebration coincided with the hosting of the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar in the Asian country, but despite this, the USMNT will be celebrating from the Middle East, albeit with a delay.
Having missed out on a debut win against their Welsh colleague, with whom they drew, Gregg Berhalter’s men will take on the all-powerful England, leaders of the group, this Friday after a 6-2 win over Iran.
Due to the importance of the commitment, the Stars and Stripes team postponed the celebration until after the duel with the British. It will be on Saturday when they can enjoy a typical turkey dinner.

Defender Cameron Carter-Vickers has confirmed the American team’s itinerary for this Saturday. “We’re having a nice little Thanksgiving meeting on Saturday, so I’m going to enjoy it (…) our whole family is here.”
For his part, Matt Turner has made no secret of his desire to celebrate the tradition in an appropriate setting, but he has prioritized the responsibility of duty and the “American Dream” to excel at this World Cup in Qatar 2022.
“Every Thanksgiving, probably 30 or 40 of my family and friends gather at my mom and dad’s house in Park Ridge, New Jersey, so yes, we will miss it,” he admitted.
“Mom and dad are here in Qatar, so this time around for people at home, things will be a little different.but we can look to the future and many more times with the family,” he added.
Major League Soccer (MLS) and US Soccer hosted a luncheon this Thursday that included some executives, journalists and former players.
