Russian forward “Washington” Alexander Ovechkin scored the 802nd goal in his career in the NHL regular season. This allowed him to pass the legendary Gordie Howe and reach a clean second place in the list of the best scorers in the league.
The Russian made a double in a duel against “Winnipeg”, which his team won with a score of 4:1.
Thus, Ovechkin now has 92 goals left before Wayne Gretzky’s “eternal” record is repeated. The Canadian scored 894 goals in the NHL regulars.
It is worth noting that the contract of the Russian will be valid for at least another three years, so Ovechkin is quite capable of breaking Gretzky’s record.
Earlier, the Washington Capitals published footage from the locker room, where hockey players celebrate the 800th puck of Russian Alexander Ovechkin in the NHL.
The footage shows the team celebrating. The athlete himself also spoke.
