The Boxing Federation of Canada will not take part in the 2023 World Boxing Championships for men and women due to the admission of athletes from Russia and Belarus to the competition. The corresponding statement was made by the head of the organization, Ryan O’Shea.

Russians and Belarusians will compete at these tournaments under their national flags. The United States, Ireland and the Czech Republic have already announced a boycott of the World Cup.

“We have serious concerns about the risk our sport is facing and the future of boxing as an Olympic sport.”– RIA Novosti quotes O’Shea.

The world championship among women should be held in March 2023 in New Delhi, and the men’s world championship will be held in May in Tashkent.

Note that in December 2022, the WBA decided to restore all athletes from Russia and Belarus in the ratings. On December 13, the WBA also recognized Russian athlete Dmitry Bivol as the best boxer of 2022.
