Makhachev on doping accusations: “These are Volkanovski’s offended people”

UFC lightweight champion Islam Makhachev has denied allegations of doping. On February 16, Makhachev received an award and a gift from the head of Dagestan, Sergei Melikov, who invited him to a reception after the Russian received the championship belt.

Makhachev stressed that there were no accusations against him from the UFC or the anti-doping commission. He linked the accusations of doping with the intrigues of the offended opponent.

“These are just offended people from the Volkanovski team making some accusations without evidence. I can’t put IVs because it’s forbidden, and I don’t resort to these things,” Makhachev said.

The UFC champion expressed the opinion that sports organizations should deal with unfounded accusations of his wrongdoing. The fighter believes that athletes who make unfounded accusations should be punished.

Recall that the fight between Makhachev and Volkanovski took place in the Australian city of Perth. Islam not only defended his lightweight championship belt, but topped the UFC rankings regardless of weight categories.

After the fight, Volkanovski hinted that Makhachev could have cheated ahead of their fight at UFC 284 and used special drips to restore the body’s water balance after cutting weight. Such a procedure is prohibited, since droppers with saline can be placed in order to hide the use of doping.
