Foster Moreau, a player for the Las Vegas Raiders, announced his retirement from the NFL at the age of 25 after being diagnosed with cancer. In particular, the young tight end suffers from non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma.
Moreau’s announcement was made through his social media accounts, where he shared his health status with his followers.
“Thanks to something miraculous, this period of free will changed my life. During a routine medical examination I learned from Saint’s medical team in New Orleans that I have Hodgkin’s lymphoma and will retire from football,” he wrote on social media.
Moro was selected in the fourth round of the 2019 NFL Draft after attending college at LSU. During his career, Moro caught 91 passes for 1,107 yards and 12 touchdowns in 61 regular season games with 34 starts.
“Right now we need to fight a new adversary: cancer. I am grateful for the support and I am grateful to the people who stood up for me.. There hasn’t been a single step I’ve taken without hundreds of people lighting my way, and I will continue to seek their guidance,” he continued.
Non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma is a type of cancer that starts in lymphocytes, which are part of the human body’s immune system. According to the American Cancer Society, the five-year survival rate for all currently diagnosed patients is about 89%.
“However, I’m going to kick that thing’s ass and get back to what I love! AMDG!” finished the young tight end.
