The German government will not agree with the International Olympic Committee if the organization takes part in international competitions from Russians and Belarusians.
Germany has promised to refuse visas to athletes from the Russian Federation and Belarus if they are admitted to international competitions. This was announced by Nancy Feather, head of the German Ministry of the Interior, on April 10, according to the N-TV channel.
In this case, it will not support the International Olympic Committee. Germany will not issue proper entry permits.
We will always act with a clear position.”
Feather emphasized that the states on the territory of which major sporting events are held should check the possibility of Russian participation in competitions. According to him, the opening of international tournaments for representatives of the Russian Federation will be “a slap in the face of Ukrainian athletes.”
The head of the department also spoke about the main culprit of Russia’s war against Ukraine. The Kremlin chief described Vladimir Putin as a “warmonger”. According to him, the participation of Russians in international competitions humiliates other nations and destroys the moral principles of the civilized world.
“It means changing all the values of sport,” added the German.
They sought the condition that they were ready to accept athletes from the Russian Federation and Belarus on March 30 in Poland. According to Sports Minister Kamil Bortnichuk, Russians and Belarusians will need to sign a special declaration before they can be allowed to compete. The country will not invite Belarusian and Russian athletes to competitions unless they sign an appropriate document declaring their condemnation of Russia’s war against our state.
Paris Mayor Anne Hidalgo said on Tuesday (February 7th) that she does not want Russian athletes to participate in the 2024 Olympics. He strongly opposes Russian citizens to compete under neutral or Olympic flags. Yes, more than a month ago, he changed his position according to the policy that athletes should not be denied the opportunity to compete, no matter where they come from.
