Unreasonable use of aspirin can lead to serious consequences, including stroke with hemorrhage. This was reported by cardiologist, teacher of the Department of Pharmacology and Clinical Pharmacology of the Faculty of Medicine of the Russian State University of Social Sciences Vadim Zakiev.
On January 27 he named contraindications for its use in a conversation with “Gazeta.Ru” cardiologist, teacher of the Department of Pharmacology and Clinical Pharmacology of the Faculty of Medicine of the Russian State University of Social Sciences Vadim Zakiev.
He clarified that aspirin is prescribed to patients to protect against repeated ischemic heart attacks and strokes. It is contraindicated for active ulcers and bleeding.
The drug is also not recommended for use for bruises and nosebleeds. However, according to the doctor, in this case it is necessary to evaluate their significance.
Indications for taking aspirin are cardiovascular diseases: myocardial infarction, ischemic stroke, severe atherosclerosis, coronary heart disease and other ailments associated with the work of the heart. A drug can only be prescribed by a doctor, who must also explain how he weighed the balance of benefits and risks. Otherwise, he is dealing with an incompetent physician, Zakiev emphasized.
“If aspirin is prescribed with the words “let it be”, “just in case”, “just take it”, this may be a sign of a bad doctor“, the cardiologist emphasized in a conversation with “Gazeta.Ru”.
Many people have used aspirin for years, but it can sometimes cause side effects, including heartburn, stomach pain, stomach ulcers, and internal bleeding. As Zakiev pointed out, in his practice there was a patient with a cerebral hemorrhage (hemorrhagic stroke), who suffered from the unreasonable prescription of aspirin. The doctor clarified that he had not been taking aspirin for long.
Zakiev recommended that his colleagues prescribe statins to prevent cardiovascular diseases. They reduce the level of “bad cholesterol” and the risk of myocardial infarction and stroke. At the same time, they are less likely to have side effects.
Earlier, cardiologist Olga Bokeria warned that changing body position can dramatically reduce blood pressure. A person’s blood pressure may also drop after eating. This condition most often affects patients with high baseline blood pressure or diseases of the autonomic nervous system.
In this case, as Bokeria pointed out, the problem is usually resolved by eating small portions of low-carb foods, drinking more water, and avoiding alcohol.
