Russian President Vladimir Putin called the International University Sports Festival, which solemnly opened on August 20 in Yekaterinburg, a unique event. The head of state wrote about this in a telegram addressed to the participants, organizers and guests of the festival, published on the Kremlin website.
“Your festival is a new, unique phenomenon in the international sports calendar. He brought together university teams from different regions of the world so that the participants could adequately defend the sports honor of their countries, together experience the unique atmosphere of students, sports, friendship and mutual understanding.“, the president said.
Putin noted the symbolism of the fact that the festival is held in Yekaterinburg, which is located at the crossroads of Europe and Asia, and is also one of the largest economic, scientific, cultural and student centers in Russia.
Separately, the Russian leader drew attention to the fact that the organizers of the festival have created a modern sports village that will serve the athletes for many years to come.
The President wished the participants of the festival a beautiful, uncompromising struggle, bright victories and records, and good and positive impressions and emotions to the guests and residents of the city.
The International University Sports Festival for representatives of the BRICS, SCO and CIS countries is being held in Yekaterinburg from 19 to 31 August 2023. It includes competitions in 14 sports. As Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Dmitry Chernyshenko revealed, athletes from 281 universities from 36 countries, including from South and Latin America, will take part in it.
