Russian judokas won six medals at once at the Grand Slam tournament, which took place in Tokyo. Two of them are gold.

The winners of gold awards were Matvey Kanikovsky (in weight up to 100 kg) and Tamerlan Bashaev (in weight from 100 kg). Bronze medals went to David Karapetyan (up to 81 kg), Mikhail Igolnikov (up to 90 kg), Ayub Bliev (up to 60 kg) and Inal Tasoev (from 100 kg).

Let us note that at this tournament Russian athletes competed in a neutral status. If the team had been represented in the medal standings, it would have taken second position. Only the Japanese overtook our judokas.

Meanwhile, the issue of the participation of Russian athletes in the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris still remains unresolved. The IOC could not even give a time frame for making a decision on this matter.
