Why Websites Are Killing Facebook

A large number of websites have removed the ability to log in with the Facebook button.which uses the user’s credentials to facilitate login.

Among these websites is the Dell platform, which until a few weeks ago allowed its users to use this option to identify themselves. However, this option is no longer available and other major companies and platforms are known to have chosen the same course of action. These include Best Buy, Ford Motors, Pottery Barn, Nike, Patagonia, Match, and even Twitch..

Jen Felch, CIO of Dell, explained that this decision is due to the crash caused by using this type of button. He argued that this was mainly due to concerns about the security and privacy of the users themselves.

“We were really only looking at how many people chose to use their social media account to log in, and that changed over time. One thing we see in the industry is more and more security threats or account hijacking, be it Instagram or Facebook or whatever, and I think we’re looking at people making the decision to isolate this social media account instead of having other connections to it.”

All of this is happening at a time when Facebook is losing ground to other platforms., resulting in the loss of its influence as a reference brand on social media. Evidence of this was Apple’s 2021 privacy policy change, which dealt a major blow to its advertising business as it was unable to offer targeted ads within the platform when users logged in from their iOS computers.

One of the reasons that led to this situation was the scandal between Facebook and data analysis firm Cambridge Analytica.. This company was responsible for collecting personal information from 87 million profiles to analyze, develop and run ads for the 2016 presidential campaign. Added to this are the revelations made by Frances Haugen, a former Facebook employee, who said that the social network He is not aware of the data caused by his social networks, but, despite this, does not try to solve them.
