Multi-colored ticks: Elon Musk announces a new verification system on Twitter

According to the businessman, companies’ accounts will now be marked with golden ticks, government institutions will be marked with gray ticks, and blue icons will be left on the pages of individuals.

American billionaire Elon Musk, owner of the Twitter platform, declaration about the introduction of multi-colored “checkmarks” to verify social network accounts. According to him, starting December 2 this year, Twitter plans to launch an updated Verified program that will edit characters of different colors for different categories of users.

Musk wrote on his Twitter account, “Golden approval for companies, gray approval for government, blue approval for individuals,” adding that all verified accounts will be manually verified before verification is enabled.

Engadget reporters noted that Musk has revealed for the first time what the colors will be for different account types, but it is not yet clear whether all verified users, including government and industrial organizations, will pay $8 per month.

However, Musk explained that if individuals are verified by an organization, they can have a secondary small logo to show their affiliation with an organization. However, all private users, regardless of the subject’s celebrity, will have a blue checkmark because, according to the businessman, the concept of “celebrity” is very subjective.

Musk fights fake accounts

Perhaps Elon Musk found a way out of the situation when faced with the problem of registering multiple fake accounts that arose after Twitter introduced a paid subscription to Twitter Blue, which was available to everyone for only $ 8. And although the businessman promised to ban anyone who tries to abuse the “blue tick”, their presence caused real chaos on the social network.

Therefore, recently a Twitter user registered a fake account, citing it as the page of drug giant and insulin maker Eli Lilly. An unidentified person made a post on this page stating that insulin will be distributed free of charge. Another copycat went even further. He apologized for the mistake, stating that insulin would now cost $400.

As a result, the tweets were viewed millions of times, and the market immediately reacted – the company’s shares collapsed instantly, which led to the company’s financial loss of more than $ 16 billion.

It was previously reported that Elon Musk’s company SpaceX sued Ukrainian IT company Starlink. The American company is demanding to terminate the registration of the Ukrainian brand ahead of schedule, as its name is consistent with that of SpaceX subsidiary Starlink.
