The military space forces of the Russian Federation will be deprived of the opportunity to procure UAVs from Iran and train operators.
Foreign Minister Anthony Blinken announced that the White House has included three Russian military structures involved in the sale of Iranian-made drones to the Russian Federation on its sanctions list. The politician said that the Russian Armed Forces used these drones in the war with Ukraine and specifically to attack civilian energy infrastructure.
The US State Department decided to impose sanctions on the Russian Aerospace Forces (VKS), the 924th State Unmanned Aviation Center and the Military Transport Aviation Command.
The White House evaluated that the aerospace forces of the aggressor country have begun to sign an agreement for the supply of Shahed type UAVs. The document states that the 924th State Center for Unmanned Aviation sent its employees to Iran to learn how to control warplanes. They took the skills of drone operators in Iran. The Military Transport Aviation Command, according to American politicians, was responsible for the transport of “Shahads” from Iran to the territory of Russia.
Anthony Blinken’s statement focuses on the fact that Russia is violating UN Security Council Resolution 2231 by purchasing warplanes from Iran, because the use of drones “further exacerbates the conflict in Ukraine”.
“The United States will continue to use every means at its disposal to intercept shipments and hold everyone involved accountable,” the document says.
We have previously reported that relatively inexpensive drones pose a threat to Ukraine because the Russian Federation can afford to buy them in large quantities and attack Ukrainian cities.
