The Armed Forces of Ukraine will receive the Ukrainian complex “Bukovel” to combat drones: how it works

The complex can detect enemy UAVs at a distance of up to 100 km and suppress them at a distance of 20 km.

Soldiers of the 59th motorized infantry brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine will soon receive the Bukovel AD complex to combat drones of the RF Armed Forces. Yury Butusov, editor-in-chief of Censor.net, wrote this on Facebook.

Volunteers managed to collect more than UAH 16 million out of the UAH 15.7 million needed to purchase the Bukovel electronic warfare dome system; The 59th brigade, currently fighting the invaders in the eastern direction, will soon receive a Ukrainian-made complex and will be able to counter Russian drones on a “very important” part of the front.

“Thanks to hundreds of patriots, a huge amount was made possible. The crew of Bukovel will be equipped with everything necessary, and we will show this as soon as the electronic warfare station is officially put into service with the brigade. everything is in place and working,” promised Yury Butusov.

The Bukovel AD system was developed by Proximus in Ukraine. Using passive navigation technology, it is able to detect Russian drones such as Orlan-10 at a distance of up to 100 km, and then “jam” at a distance of 15-20 km.

The Bukovel equipment is installed in the back of a pickup truck with the control station and the UAV detection module, and deployment takes just two minutes. There is also a fixed version on a special tripod.

According to Defense Express, Bukovel-AD has been tested and gradually developed in combat conditions in the Donbass since 2015. In 2021, Proximus released the seventh modification of the system, called “Bukovel-AD R4” with a longer range.

The complex suppresses control signals, data transmission and GPS, GLONASS, Galileo and Beidou satellite navigation, and also creates many false signals that confuse electronics. In addition to drones, it can withstand enemy communications and radar systems, as well as weapons with satellite guidance systems.

Earlier, we wrote about the best ways to fight drones in Ukraine and around the world. Along with the development of drones, engineers are developing technologies to counter them: radars, sensors, satellite jammers, laser systems and other tools.

Last week, the Russians boasted of their new Burdock complex to combat UAF drones, but it’s unlikely to reach the front line. According to expert Valery Yakovenko, it will be very difficult for the Russians to start mass production due to sanctions and the lack of components.
