Some Ukrainian crews produce UAVs in larger quantities than foreign companies and benefit the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
Since the beginning of a full-scale war, the Ukrainians began to actively develop unmanned aerial vehicles to support the Ukrainian Armed Forces. Valery Yakovenko, founder of the drone.ua project, spoke about the features of Ukrainian drones in an interview with Gazeta.ua.
In his opinion, the effectiveness of domestic drones is very high, since the developers consult directly with the military. If necessary, manufacturers change their devices, taking into account the needs of the military, so even initially inefficient models are of great benefit.
“Now the drones created by the Ukrainian teams are interesting and adapted to the needs of the military,” stressed the expert. “Some Ukrainian manufacturers have already become much larger than their European or more distant foreign counterparts.”
Valery Yakovenko added that today there are more than 50 Ukrainian UAV manufacturers. Ukrainians produce unmanned aerial vehicles not only in our country, but also in neighboring countries in order to secure production against Russian attacks. At the same time, they are trying to establish affordable prices.
“About half of the equipment in this process is Ukrainian or related to Ukraine. The rest is developments in Europe, America or sometimes Asia,” said Valery Yakovenko.
Despite the development of domestic production, most of the “fleet” of the Armed Forces of Ukraine still consists of inexpensive Chinese commercial drones used for reconnaissance. In Ukraine, they began to create their own attack aircraft with guided weapons, reminiscent of the Turkish Bayraktar, but information about them is rarely disclosed. One such example is the Sokol-300 from the Luch Design Bureau. There are also kamikaze drones like the American Switchblade.
“With regard to UAVs, this aspect is very effective, but not publicly available. We do not get reliable information about how and what was used or not used in the depths of Russia in the strikes of 5 and 26 December. We will find out later. Yakovenko commented.
Earlier, Valery Yakovenko told how the production of drones in Ukraine has changed since the beginning of the war. He said that Ukrainian enterprises are able to organize the mass production of reconnaissance vehicles, but it is more difficult to manufacture drums.
