Production of flexible solar panels has begun: who will produce it?

We’ll soon see it on new Volkswagen and Audi models, and possibly Hyundai, Renault and Geely cars.

The world’s first solar panel facility opened in Israel. The Times of Israel writes that Apollo Power will supply film solar panels of its own design to Amazon, Volkswagen and Audi.

Customers plan to use the innovative panels in the fuselage of their cars and airplanes.

The area of the enterprise is 10,000 square meters. m and was built for $30 million in the Yokneam science and industrial park, Mevo Carmel, in northern Israel. The facility is planned to produce 1.5 million square meters per year. m flexible solar panels that will reach an annual capacity of 190 MW. This capacity will be enough to supply electricity to 40,000 ordinary homes per year.

Flexible solar panels are useful on curved surfaces that cannot support the weight of standard glass solar panels. The base unit size of the solar film is 12 square meters. m and weighs 3 kg per square meter. In addition, the company’s product can be used as floating solar power plants on ships and even in water.

The Israeli factory is scheduled to supply Volkswagen with tens of thousands of solar panels over the next 10 years in a $36 million deal for use in new car models as early as 2024. A similar contract was signed with Audi, and negotiations began with Hyundai, Renault and Geely.

Previously Focus He wrote that scientists have produced solar panels that are 18 times more efficient and 100 times lighter than conventional solar panels.
