Mazda CX-80 to debut in Europe by the end of 2023 February 13, 2023 0

Growth strategy Mazda also goes through launch of new SUV models which are in high demand in the market. In Europe, the Japanese automaker has already launched the CX-60, which we recently tested with a diesel engine. However, by the end of the year, the manufacturer confirmed that CX-80 debutsa significantly more spacious version of the CX-60, which will accommodate up to 7 passengers on board.

According to what he told Automotive News Europe Martin ten Brink, head of Mazda Europe, the design will follow the design of the CX-90 SUV, which was recently introduced in the United States. To accommodate the third row of seats, the new SUV will likely be longer than the 4740mm CX-60. The wheelbase of 2,870 mm should also grow a little.

This new SUV should become the flagship of Mazda’s European lineup. As for the engines, no details have been added. However, given that the CX-80 will be based on the same platform as the CX-60, both new plug-in transmission and new 3.3-litre 6-cylinder diesel engine mild hybrid technology. The new Mazda CX-80 will be sold not only in Europe but also in Japan.

RANGE EXPANDER ALSO ON OTHER MODELS?

In addition to confirming that the CX-80 will debut in Europe by the end of 2023, Martin ten Brink has other very interesting things to say. Saying goodbye to the Mazda CX-3, the Japanese automaker aims to give the CX-5 more room to grow with the introduction of a new Mild Hybrid gasoline engine. Brand bosses expect the CX-5 to continue to be their best-selling model in 2023.

Even more interesting, however, is the possibility that the Wankel Range Extender used on the MX-30 could also be adopted on other models. The manager is talking specifically about the Mazda3 and Mazda CX-30 as they are based on the same platform as the MX-30.

What is certain is that Mazda is shifting its focus more and more towards electrifying its lineup. Therefore, it is not surprising that the manufacturer wants to use the Wankel range extender powertrain on other models as well.
