The RF Armed Forces can receive Owl laser detectors: will they interfere with the Ukrainian Armed Forces?

The Russians expect the device to warn the invaders of the aiming of guided missiles, the operation of snipers and the approach of drones.

In May, the Russian military-industrial complex plans to supply its army with new Filin laser radiation detectors. This was reported by the Russian agency “TASS”.

A source in the military-industrial complex of the Russian Federation claims that Elephant detectors detect signals in the infrared range (900-1,700 nm) emitted by laser rangefinders or target designators. Thus, from the APU they can warn the Russian army about the guidance of guided missiles, snipers and unmanned aerial vehicles. When laser beams are detected, the devices emit sound signals that vary according to the type of radiation.

The Russians claim that the Filin has a 120-degree field of view, compact dimensions (slightly larger than a smartphone) and a mass of less than 1 kg, which will allow invaders to carry it with them in front of them. Detectors using rechargeable batteries are claimed to work for 48 hours without recharging.

“The development has been tested, demonstrated its performance, and is set to be transferred for testing by approximately the end of spring,” the source said.

According to the Defense Express edition, there is no additional information on the new Russian detectors in the network, and only the ship’s laser system for creating optical interference is mentioned under the name “Elephant”. However, there are known cases where the RF Armed Forces used “Spider” laser radiation detectors fixed to helmets.

It is quite possible that “Owl” is an analogue or modification of “Spiders”. If we compare the devices by the declared characteristics, then the “Elephant” is much heavier and has a smaller range, but works longer. It is not known who developed and produced Owls, but Spider was included in the catalog of the European company ShinexTech, although it was removed from the website recently. Now detectors are sold by the Spetsenergoreshenie company from Moscow, without specifying their origin or even name.

Defense Express states that Spider has only been spotted by Wagner PMC mercenaries. As analysts suggested, the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation could order a similar technology from the military-industrial complex, but Russian engineers did not achieve such compactness, perhaps even using a laser radiation sensor based on active electronic-optical protection systems. TSHU-1 or TSHU-1-11 is also called “Curtain” for armored vehicles.

Earlier, they wrote that the Armed Forces of Ukraine in Russia created detectors to detect unmanned aerial vehicles. These are pocket devices that squeak when they receive any radio emissions, including Wi-Fi.
