Maserati presented its world premiere at the Shanghai Motor Show. new Grecal Folgore, the electric SUV we’ve talked about in the past and seen up close as a prototype at last year’s e-prix in Rome. Reaffirming the importance of the Chinese market, the carmaker also unveiled the new Maserati GranTurismo at the show, both in combustion and electric versions.
Therefore, the brand wanted to present to the public at the show a new electric SUV that will play a very important role in its electrification strategy. Maserati has committed to producing electric versions of all its models by 2025 and only all-electric vehicles by 2030. David GrassoMaserati CEO commented:
This is a defining moment for the Maserati brand. Today we are in China at the Shanghai Auto Show; we are in Italy at the cosmopolitan Milan Design Week; we are celebrating the future all over the world: this is a new beginning for our brand. We are celebrating Folgore, an electrification project that has become a reality and is ready to take the lead in this revolutionary era. I am very happy to be here in Shanghai, which is not only an international exhibition, but also a global platform for innovation and an ideal place to present the first electric models in Maserati’s history.
Introducing the SUV at the Shanghai Motor Show, Maserati shared some technical characteristics that were already known. More details will definitely appear when it is officially introduced in Europe.
Grecale Folgore does not differ much from the endothermic model. The dimensions are always the same. We find only a few bumper modifications and, above all, one grate closed as in all electrics, given the absence of an endothermic engine. Then we can observe the presence of alloy wheels, which have a special design designed to optimize aerodynamics.
The interior is practically the same as the endothermic version. Therefore, we can note the presence of digital instruments with a 12.3-inch screen and a new infotainment system with a 12.3-inch display. Below is an additional 8.8-inch screen through which people can control certain functions, such as air conditioning.
As for the technical characteristics, we already know that Grecale Folgore is based on a modified version of the Giorgio platform. Maserati didn’t want to add additional details to what we already knew. Therefore, the power unit will be able to count on two electric motors with a capacity of more than 500 hp. and 800 Nm of torque and 105 kWh battery. However, there is no exact information about the autonomy front.
