In Russia, they want to create a prototype engine for drones “5 times more powerful” than last year

Rostec announced plans to install a “unique automatic control system”.

On its website, United Engine Corporation, part of state company Rostec, announced plans to build a 500 kW hybrid power plant (HPU) demonstrator.

They claim that in the future UAVs, helicopters and even airplanes will be equipped with engines. Actually speaking of a prototype, it is already being discussed that it will be “5 times more powerful” than the setup the UEC-Klimov initiative presented a year ago.

The concept will consist of a VK-650 aircraft gas turbine engine, an electric generator, 2 electric motors and a “unique automatic control system”. What the uniqueness of the system is is not disclosed.

Last year the company also prototyped a 100 kW HPU, and now a 500 kW motor will be built on its basis. But nothing is said about the mass production of devices.

The press release states that such engines will help save fuel, increase flight safety, enable take-off from small runways, and increase the maneuverability of UAVs and other aircraft such as helicopters, planes and even air taxis. Currently, the HSU “demonstrator” is only available in the form of a 3D model.

Earlier, we reported that the Russians showed new unmanned aerial vehicles that they will hand over to the Russian Armed Forces for use in Ukraine.
